Hi there.

I have a 2week trip to Japan at the beginning of November. I will be arriving in Tokyo and working my way south (Takayama, Kyoto, Osaka, Mt Koya).

Is it possible to travel cross the Japanese Alpen pass in a day? I will be arriving in Shinano-Omachi at 11:00am on Wednesday the 4th November (arriving on the 7:30am train from Shinjuku) and traveling in the direction of Tateyama then onto Toyama for the night before my onward journey to Takayama. I would very much like to cross the alps and take in the views/scenery, however, if it is too rushed or connections could be disrupted because of snow then I may find an alternative route.

I am aware that my JRpass does not cover this journey

Kind Regards, Shayn.

Hi Shayn,

It is possible to finish to Kurobe Alpine Route in one day. However it is recommended to start as early as possible as traveling can take quite some time and you will want to enjoy the scenery as well. While you are departing Shinjuku early, starting the route at 11:00am is not ideal. Still I do think that you an finish the route in time but you may have to hurry at times. I do think it is a good idea to stay the night near the end of the route or in Tateyama/Toyama.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
