Hello. We are are of two families travelling together consisting of 6 adults and a child. We will be arriving at Kansai airport on 20th April and will spend 3 nights in Osaka, then 3 nights in Takayama, 2 nights in Hakone , 2 in Tokyo , 3 in Kyoto before leaving on the 3rd May via Kansai.
Which is a better option, to buy the 1 week or the 2 weeks railpass ?... since we will make long journeys only on certain days of our trip.
What is the economic way to travel those two weeks ?
Thank you.

A 7 day pass would not pay off the way your time is structured, unless you added a side trip to Himeji for example. Otherwise, one thing you could do is put all the time in Kansai (Osaka/Kyoto/Nara) together, and then go to Takayama and Tokyo. If you can put all the long distance travel together within 7 days, you can make the Pass pay off quite well.
You can't use the pass very much for Hakone though. Use a Free Pass for that instead:

If you opt not to use the 7 day pass, you can still take advantage of the Takayama-Hokuriku Tourist Pass which is still valid before they cancel it in June.
