Konnichiha Etan-san,

I do think that a 7 day JR Pass could be helpful, especially when you visit Osaka and maybe Hokkaido.
The 7 day JR Pass is the same price as a normal return ticket Osaka - Tokyo on the Shinkansen, now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price! The Pass is also valid for local travel in Tokyo and Osaka and makes for easy travel as you just use one ticket.

For Hokkaido, 7 days may be a little short if you want to visit both Osaka and Hokkaido but it would be possible. Though a better option may be to add a visit to Hiroshima or Miyajima when you are in Osaka. This would allow you to make the most of your pass, see a lot of Japan and don't spend an excessive amount of time traveling around.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
