Hokuriku Arch Pass

Thank you. You are the first person to answer this question after several attempts on Tripadvisor. Can you also
advise if you can use this Arch Pass to travel to Kanazawa from Tokyo (day trip) and which train would you use that doesn't required a reservation. I understand the Kanazawa does, but maybe other trains don't need a reservation.

You could visit Kanazawa as a day trip but it takes quite a bit of time getting there. 3 Hours for one way, so you'd travel 6 hours just for a day trip.

I am not sure if I understand your question about reservations. There are different train services on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, the Kagayaki, Hakutaka and Azuma. The Kagayaki is all reserved but the other trains have non-reserved seats.

The thunderbird express between Kyoto and Kanazawa also has non reserved seats.

Yes a long day trip. My question was if we didn't secure a seat on the Kagayaki there are non reserved seats that maybe available.

Not on the Kagayaki but on the other train services yes.

Don't worry about seat reservations though, trains rarely sell out. Only on national holidays is it that it is recommended to reserve longer in advance.

Hi Daniel, Just continuing on with the Hokuriku Arch Pass. Can you advise if we can travel from Tokyo using this same route i.e. Kanazawa to Kyoto without purchasing the Pass and the cost and if its the same Shinkanzen trains. We have searched Hyperdia and it will only show the Nozomi which maybe on another route. The Arch pass may not be the most cost effective ticket.

If you want to travel between Tokyo - Kyoto using the Hokuriku arch pass, it always means taking the same route (the one we talked about before via Kanazawa).

If you wish to travel directly on the Shinkansen between Tokyo - Kyoto, then the 7 day JR Pass would be a better option.

If you wish to search in Hyperdia for the Arch pass, use Kyoto - Kanazawa and Kanazawa - Tokyo.

I am re-thinking my choose of passes and have a question regarding the JR National Pass/7 days.
I need to travel Tokyo,Kyoto/Osaka/Hiroshima/Nara and I would like to use it for the ferry to Miyajima. Does the pass
cover the ferry trip as it does on the JR Kansai Area Pass.

Yes, the JR pass also covers the ferry to Miyajima. As well as travel between Tokyo,Kyoto/Osaka/Hiroshima/Nara.
