My niece and I will be traveling to Japan. We will spend 6 days in Okinawa and 2.5 days in Shinjuku. I have been told that a Rail Pass is a must, but I a bit apprehensive because we will be doing some sight seeing, but I'm not sure if buying 2 rail passes will be cost effective. Our sight seeing will be in the greater Tokyo area, so there will be no long distance traveling, as to Osaka or Aomori.
Does anyone have a suggestion or an answer to this question?
Thank you,

Do I need a Japan Rail Pass for 2.5 days?
Hi there,
For this sort of trip where you are not doing any long distance travel, a nationwide JR Pass will not be suitable. I recommend you look into the 2 day metro passes available to visitors from abroad, which will cover all travel inside the metro area. In particular, if you are arriving into and departing from Narita from Okinawa, I recommend you look at the combined Keisei Skyliner and 2 day metro pass deals which will cover your airport transfers and travel within Tokyo for ¥4880 per person.
Hope this helps!
Mari,
You are a lifesaver!!! I've done all the research and the Keisei and 2 day metro are the best deal!! I was thinking of using the limousine bus, but your suggestion was much more cost effective.
Thank you so much!! <3
no problem!
