First of all, congratulations for your web site, finding it is like finding an osais in a desert.

I will travel to Japan the 9th of April. I will arrive to Narita at 8:30PM and I have Hotel reservations in Osaka.
My travel plans are:

April 9th: arrive to Narita (8:30PM) and travel to Osaka (Sleeping in Osaka)
April 10th: Osaka (Sleeping in Osaka)
April 11th: Nara (Sleeping in Osaka)
April 12th: Kyoto (Sleeping in Osaka)
April 13th: Travel to Tokyo (Sleeping in Disney Resorts)
April 14th: Tokyo (Sleeping in Disney Resorts)
April 15th: Tokyo - Narita (355PM)

I will stay in Tokyo in the Disney Resort hotels ... but I don't want to visit Disney, so I will be traveling to Tokyo every day.

I have several questions:

  1. What is the best way to travel around?
  2. The JR pass is convenient for me?
  3. It is possible to arrive to Osaka on April 9th? or is better to sleep that night in Tokyo
  4. Which is the best way to move between Osaka, Nara and Kyoto.
  5. Which is the best way to move around Tokyo and the Disney Resort.
  6. Finally, do you think that is it possible to go to a Fuji water spring bath in one of the Tokyo nights?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot Andrés!

Firstly, lets break down all the costs for your trip:

  1. Narita airport terminal 1 > Osaka: ¥15850, (272mins, 635km)
  2. Osaka > Nara: ¥780, (62mins, 48km)
  3. Nara > Osaka: ¥780, (55mins, 48km)
  4. Osaka > Kyoto: ¥540, (29mins, 42km)
  5. Kyoto > Osaka: ¥540, (28mins, 42km)
  6. Osaka > Maihama: ¥13760, (229mins, 569km)
  7. Maihama > Tokyo: ¥210, (16mins, 12km)
  8. Tokyo > Maihama: ¥210, (15mins, 12km)
  9. Maihama > Tokyo: ¥210, (16mins, 12km)
  10. Tokyo > Narita airport terminal 1: ¥2740, (58mins, 79km)

TOTAL: ¥35620 for 10 legs

Here are some answers for you:

  1. What is the best way to travel around?
  2. The JR pass is convenient for me?

As you'll be in Japan for 7 days, the 7 day rail pass would be the only suitable pass for you. In order for it to be worth it, you would have to spend more than ¥28,300 on rail tickets. As your ticket costs will be ¥35,620, I recommend buying the 7 day rail pass - you'll make a saving of ¥7320 and it will be very convenient.

  1. It is possible to arrive to Osaka on April 9th? or is better to sleep that night in Tokyo

The last bullet trains to Osaka leave Tokyo at around 8pm, so I think it'll be best for you to sleep in Tokyo.

  1. Which is the best way to move between Osaka, Nara and Kyoto.

The best way to move between these cities will be by JR, especially if you have a rail pass.

  1. Which is the best way to move around Tokyo and the Disney Resort.

The best way into Tokyo is via the JR Keiyo line at Maihama. It's a short 13 mins journey to Tokyo station so will be very convenient I think. Here's a sample itinerary.

  1. Finally, do you think that is it possible to go to a Fuji water spring bath in one of the Tokyo nights?

Hmm. Possibly not Fuji water, but there are a lot of Bath houses ('onsen' are spring water, 'sento' are heated water bath houses) in Tokyo that will probably be great choices (you don't want to travel too far from bed for these!). If you want something very close to you hotel, how about checking out the Sento and Onsen in Maihama? As it's close to the Disney resort there will be lots of choice. Here's an onsen at the hotel Eurasia Maihamawhich has 23 different spa's. Cost wise, you're looking at around ¥2000 so it is very good value.

If you want a more traditional, fun onsen experience, how about the Oedo Onsen Monogatari? It's a recreated old part of Tokyo plus onsen hotsprings - could be good fun!

Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot for the info... you really take a lot of time to help me ....

From your answer I will:

  1. Buy the JR pass
  2. I will stay the first day in Tokyo. Can you recommend me a Capsule Hotel close to the Tokyo Station. Sleeping in one of those hotels looks like part of the Tokyo experience.
  3. The bath houses look really really cool, but they apear to have a strict policy about tatoos. My wife, my brother in law and me have tatoos :-( . So, I will try to find another nocturnal activity ...

About the JR pass, I will buy 4 passes but I want to know if you charge the delivery expenses per ticket or per the whole pack?

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi again!

Capsule hotels are really funny places, but they are often not available to women. They can also be a little tired and old these days. How about trying to stay in a traditional Ryokan?

About the rail passes, delivery is charged per order, so if you order 4 tickets, the delivery charge will be the same as an order with 1 ticket.

Hope this helps!

P.S. Some bath houses allow tattoos, so it's still worth asking!

The Ryokan looks really nice but it looks that almost all the Ryokan are outside Tokyo.

I was checking about the first train from Tokyo to Osaka is at 6:00 AM departing from Shin-Yokohama. I'm trying to find a good hotel close to the station ....

About the bath houses I will check in Japan, and about the tickets I will buy them the next week.

Thanks.

Ok! good luck with the search - I always find that google maps is the best way to look for hotels near stations in Japan. Maybe you can try this search for some ideas?

Hope this helps
