My wife and I will be in Japan April 11 to April 25 flying to Narita with 4 days in Tokyo then 3 days in Kyoto then Hiroshima and places in the country which we have not yet determined. While in Tokyo we are considering side trips. We would like to know if 14 day Passes are recommended and if the Green Pass provides more room for luggage and if the seats are more comfortable such as airlines. Also we would like recommendations on places to stay in the country. Much thanks
14 days Tokyo Kyoto etc
Hi there!
By going to Tokyo - Hiroshima - Kyoto - Tokyo you'd be making very good use of the JR Pass. When you are in Hiroshima I would certainly recommend making a visit to Miyajima as well, which is one of the most Iconic places in Japan and the ferry there is even covered by the JR Pass.
As for green class, have you by any chance read out blog post about Green Class. It does a good job of explaining what to expect of Green Pass. One reason I'd personally recommend traveling Green is that it is much more quiet, as a lot less people travel using Green Cars. It's a great way to relax and avoid some of the traveling crowd.
For other places to visit, I'd recommend a visit to Matsue which is not too far from Hiroshima, has a beautiful art museum, castle and you could also make a visit to Izumo Taisha, one of the most impressive shrines in Japan.
An other place you could consider is Kinosaki Onsen, best visited from Kyoto. This Onsen town is amazing for trying a Japanese onsen bath.
Lastly, one of my personal favorites is Kanazawa the city is home to an old Geisha Quarter and you can make a visit to Kenryoku-en one of the most beautiful gardens in Japan!
Hope this helps!
Daniel
