Hi,

I am stopping over at Tokyo for 2 nights before heading to Hokkaido. The flight departs from Narita Airport at 7.30am.
Q1: If I stay at Tokyo, I wonder if there is any train service I can use to arrive at Narita Airport before 6.30am?
Q2: Would it be easier if I stay at Narita town the night before? What train service is available?

Thank you so much for answering my questions.

Hi Daphney,

Here are some answers for you:

  1. Here are some trains that will get you into Narita around 6:15-6:30am from Tokyo station.
  2. As your flight is at 7:30, then it may be best to book a hotel near Narita. Here is the official Narita Airport hotel list to give you a start on finding a hotel. Depending on the hotel you choose you'll either be able to walk, get a taxi, use their shuttle bus, or use the JR service from Narita to the airport. Here are a selection of trains getting you into T2 at around 6:30am. It seems that 6:30am is the earliest you can get to Narita by train, so you may be better getting a taxi at this time as the journey will not be far.

Hope this helps!

Also, as a budget choice near Narita you could also look at the Toyoko Inn chain, which will have rooms for around ¥5000-6000.

Hope this helps!

Hi Mari,

Thanks for the tips! I did some search at Hyperdia.com for the train schedule and found an early train from Asakusa to Narita Airport T2. I wonder if this schedule is reliable?

If I follow Route 1, how do I find the connecting train (the correct train track, platform, etc) at Keiseitakasago station? Do I need to alight and change train at Oshiage station? Sorry for asking so many questions. Hope to hear from you again.

Thank you!

Hi there!

The schedule you list is reliable (mainly using the metro and the Keisei railroad), but does have some pretty nail biting transfers. Following route 1 you'll need to stay on the same train at Oshiage (The Toei and Keisei line operate a shared service, or "Through Train" that merges from the Toei subway onto the Keisei Oshiage line), and then transfer train at Keisei Takasago. You'll only have 1 minute for the transfer to platform 3 or 4 for the train to Narita, so will have to be on alert! You can find a guide to all the meaning of the icons on Hyperdia here.

As these itineraries are focussed at getting you to the Keisei line for the final stretch to Narita, you could also look at this route via Ueno, the start of the Keisei line. There's a short 5 mins walk(map) from Ueno subway to the Keisei Ueno station, but I think the transfers are more reasonable.

Hope this helps!
