Hello! I was wondering if I will be using mostly the fast trains all throughout the trip, will it be cheaper to use to whole JR japan pass and does it cover also the hokuriku arch pass? or is it better to just purchase individual shinkansen tickets back and forth?

my itinerary will be day 1-2 (Tokyo) Day3-6 (chubu region,- Nagoya, Aichi and Takayama, Shirakawa-go, Gero) Day 7-9 (back to Tokyo)

Hi there,

The Hokuriku Pass won't cover this itinerary, and also bear in mind that Takayama, Shirakawa and Gero are accessible only by local JR lines, not Shinkansen. I would recommend purchasing a JR Pass and activating it when leaving Tokyo, so that it is useable for all of your train journeys.

Also note that to get around the Nagoya area and visit Aichi, you'll need to get a bus or taxi, depending on where it is you'll want to visit.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
