Hi there,
if I want to use the JR-Pass on Hikari or any other bullet train where there are reserved seats only. Do I have to go to an office to get those tickets first? Or can I just take any train, just sit somewhere and show the jr-pass to the service person?
Thank you in advance

Hi Regina,

There is a difference between reserved seats and non reserved seats. Most trains have both and you can also use both for free with the JR Pass. You have to make a reservation if you wish to travel by reserved seat (I would certainly recommend doing so, makes things much more relaxing). However you can also use the non reserved seats, in this case just sit down and show your JR Pass :)

You can recognize the difference by the signs on the platforms and on each train car.

Enjoy the Ride!
