Hello.

I was planning on activating a 7-day JR Pass on April 9 (AM). Does this mean that the pass would be valid up until April 15 at midnight?

Please advise.

Thanks!

Hi there,

The JR Pass is counted in consecutive days and the first day is counted as a full day, no matter what time you start using it. Activating it on the 9th, would indeed mean that the last day of usage is April the 15th.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

So If I activate 1st July at 07.00 hours I can use the 7 days pass until the 7th July till 24.00 hours?
Or does the Pass expire 7th.July at 07.00 hours
OR 8th.July at 07.00 hours.

I realise that there is no compensation for Non Use as this pressurises one to do a Daily Non STop journey all over Japan!

The pass is counted in days and the first day is counted as a full day no matter when you start using it. For instance, if you activate the JR Pass on a Monday, then the last day of usage is the follow Sunday (until Midnight)

The price of the pass reflect that you do not have to start using it every day. For instance, a return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto costs as much as a 7 day JR Pass. You can already get your's money worth if you only use it for 1-2 days.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

SO when I exchange my Voucher at Haneda Airport for the JR Pass,
I will have already made the Complete list with dates and time of the Train journeys I wish to Make.
Can I give it to the Counter Assistant to then give me the actual Train Tickets?

Yes, having a written list will be a big help for the staff to book your tickets.
