Using the Takayama-Hokuriku JR Pass on Tokaido-Sanyo Trains and Hida 15 Limited Express trains?

Good afternoon everyone. I planned to travel from Kyoto to Takayama.

I searched online and found that to reach Takayama, we have to pass through Nagoya (if we don't plan to visit Kanazawa).

I also read that Takayama-Hokuriku JR Pass doesn't cover the Tokaido Shinkansen Trains to Nagoya.

However, there is a rapid service train called the Tokaido-Sanyo line which is NOT a Shinkansen. Also, I found a route using the HIDA 15 Limited Express Takayama from Kyoto to Takayama.

May I know if using the Takayama-Hokuriku JR Pass applies on Tokaido-Sanyo Trains and Hida 15 Limited Express trains?

Hi there,

The JR Pass can be used on the regular Tokaido-Sanyo service and the Hida Limited Express. To get from Kyoto to Takayama you'd take the Tokaido-Sanyo line to Nagoya and then board the Hida Limited Express. All trains will either terminate at Takayama or will pass through Takayama and terminate at Toyama. This means that you can choose any of the services to reserve seats on and boards.

Just to make sure, the JR pass you mean, is the Takayama- Hokuriku JR regional pass, right?
