My son was accepted as an International Exchange student at Hiroshima University. I would like to go with him on hifirst trip abroad and explore Japan for 5 days. Our tickets will be reno, nevada to narita airport. Is it possible we can take the train to Hiroshima? How much it will cost for each person and will it be cheaper than taking the direct flight to Hiroshima?

Hi There!
Congratulations to your son his acceptance to the International Exchange student at Hiroshima University!
Going by train from Narita Airport to Hiroshima by train can be a little pricy - namely one way is ¥ 20,740 / per person (or 41480 for the return).
A JR Pass can be a great help here, gives that you enter Japan under a 90 day tourist Visa.
The 7 day JR Pass is ¥ 28,300 Yen so you would be able to save ¥ 13,180 over normal train tickets and you could make stop over at Kyoto for instance!
As for flight tickets, prices can change a lot depending on season, time booked and company so it is hard to say if if you would be able to make savings here. The best thing is to look around on different websites and see what prices they offer.
I hope this helps!
Daniel
