Hello,
I'm going to be going from tokyo to osaka and kyoto and then back to tokyo, is it best to get a JR pass or is there another ticket that covers that area?
Thank you,
Persephone
Tokyo, osaka and kyoto by train
Hi there,
There are no regional rail passes that cover this area as it spans 3 main JR zones (JR-East, JR-Central and JR-West). So the only rail pass that would cover you is the countrywide JR Pass.
Looking at costs, the ticket cost of each of your legs is:
- Tokyo > Osaka: ¥13550, (194mins, 556km)
- Osaka > Kyoto: ¥540, (29mins, 42km)
- Kyoto > Tokyo: ¥13020, (161mins, 513km)
TOTAL: ¥27110 for 4 legs
With a 7 day JR Pass ¥1190 more at ¥28,300, it may be worth buying if you plan on doing this trip within a 7 day period, and you think you'll do any more rail travel, for example to Nikko, or a day trip to Hiroshima from Osaka.
Hope this helps!
