Hi there!

We are flying to Tokyo for 3 days, then Kyoto for 3 days, then Osaka 1day and then flying back home from Fukuoka (Saga).
Is the JR is worth to buy? What are expenses without JR? Does JR cover all transfers among these cities?

Thank you so much for your answer!

Hi Leonese,

Here is a breakdown of the costs without the JR-Pass:

Tokyo --> Kyoto ¥ 13,020
Kyoto --> Osaka ¥540
Osaka --> Fukuoka (in Hyperdia station name = Hakata) :¥ 14,390

For a total of ¥ 27,950 the 7 day JR Pass is 28,300. Right now it would not cover the cost of single tickets but it could be worth it if you plan on making a day trip somewhere, additionally you can also use the JR-Pass for local travel on JR-Lines/Tokyo Monorail in Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
-Daniel

Dear Daniel,

Thank you so much for your reply! What if we include Mt Fuji in between? Does JR cover Tokyo - Mt Fuji, then Mt Fuji - Kyoto?

Hello Again :)

It depends on the the area around Fuji you wish to visit but you can't use the JR-Pass all the way to Fuji.

If you wish to visit Fuji 5 lakes you can use the JR-Pass to travel From Tokyo to Otsuki and transfer to a different railway.

Also if you wish to visit the Hakone Area you can use Shinkansen to Odawara and take a private railway from there.

Hope this helps :)
-Daniel
