Hello! We are in Japan for 13 days and plan to travel to the above cities. We also plan to take the train from Narita airport into Tokyo. Does a 14 day rail pass make sense for us? And can we travel on the bullet trains?
Thank you!
Julie

Hi Julie,

Let's have a look at regular ticke trices and see if a JR Pass would make sense.

Narita Airport - Tokyo ¥ 2,940
Tokyo - Takayama ¥ 14,300
Takayama - Kyoto ¥ 9,680
Kyoto - Tokyo ¥ 13,220
Tokyo - Narita Airport ¥ 2,940

This adds up to ¥ 46,020 the 14 day JR Pass is ¥ 45,100 so you would save ¥ 920. In addition you can also use the JR Pass on local JR lines in Tokyo and around Kyoto, adding even more. An other nice perk is that you will just require one ticket for all your travel, making getting around Japan very convenient.

I hope this helps!
Daniel
