I am planning to get the 14 day JR pass, first use on February 24th going from Shinjuku to Hakuba by the Azusa limited express , but I do not arrive in Japan until the 23rd. If I pick up the pass and activate on the 23rd, is there risk of train being filled and will I find myself unable to reserve? There is only one train a day and I can't miss it. Or is it better to reserve the ticket without the JR pass?

Hi there,
You can always come a bit early to the station and take a non-reserved seat. So there is no risk at all about not being able to take the train.
Kind regards,
Daniel
