Hi,
Is it possible to make seat reservations for JR East trains online from abroad with a JR pass - Japan wide pass?
I arrive in Tokyo on 26 April, late evening and plan to travel to travel to Aomori the next day. Given its Golden week, I’m worried about seat reservations and want to book online now.
JR east online seat reservations does not list the JR pass as an option to reserve online? Can I select one of the other passes to reserve in seats in advance and still pick up my tickets and activity JR pass the day after arriving?

Is reservation of seats to Aomori from Tokyo on the day of departure- 27 April likely to be booked out?
Also, travelling to Osaka on 1st May from Aomori; Is it likely to be difficult to reserve Shinkansen seats during this time with Golden Week?

Hi there,

Yes, you can make reservations on the Eki-Net for JR East trains, however this can be done only once you have activated the JR Pass in Japan unfortunately. It is golden week so you should be cautious with reservations but I believe that if you book a day in advance immediately you should be able to find a ticket - there are so many shinkansen services daily that it's almost impossible you won't find a seat. I recommend also reserving seats for Osaka too so you don't have to worry about that.

Not sure why the JR Pass isn't listed for you on the Eki-Net site, but you can always make reservations in person or at a ticket machine if the problem persists.
