Another quick question. If we buy the green pass and when we go to reserve seats all the green seats are taken can we book standard seats instead? If we use the green pass in Tokyo can we use the unreserved cars without reserving seats for example for short trips on the yamanote line.
Thank you so much for all your sterling advice.

Hi again!

The Green Pass is valid in both Green and Ordinary train cars, reserved and non-reserved. So you can always take a normal seat of you wish, for instance if you travel with someone that does not have the pass.

Local trains, like the Yamanote line don't have reserved seats and you can board them any time you wish.

I hope this helps!
