I bought 7-day pass. The first time I’m going to use it for traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto 25 of September ( 9.00am ). When does expire my pass? 01 October 9.00am or midnight????
Thanks,
Jacek
Pass validity in days or hours?
Hi Jacek,
The JR Pass validity is measured in days, not hours. This means that if you were to exchange it in Kyoto on the 25th of September, your pass validity would expire at 23:59 on the 1st of October.
Hope this helps!
Hi Mari,
I was wondering if you could clarify this please. If I start my pass on Sunday the 30th at 5 PM can I still use it all the way to 459 PM on the following Sunday October 7th, that being 7 days or does it end the night of the Saturday the 6th?
Your assistance with this would be very much appreciated as it will change how we look at booking tickets.
Thanks
Roy
Hi Roy,
As the rail pass validity is measured in days rather than hours, if you were to start your pass on Sunday the 30th of September (at any time), then that Sunday would count as your first day of use, with the last day of validity being the following Saturday.
The validity period can be a bit counter-intuitive, but I hope this makes things clear. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
