My wife and i are travelling to Japan in August. We arrive by air in Osaka and want to then travel to Nagasaki and back to Osaka. Leaving Osaka on the 6 Aug and returning on the 13 Aug.
Is it best we get a JR pass for this journey? can we use the pass in Nagasaki and what will normal fares cost?

Let's have a look at ticket prices and find out if a JR Pass would be if use.
A one way ticket using the Shinkansen Osaka - Nagasaki is ¥ 18,100 (or ¥ 36,200 for a return). A 7 day JR Pass is ¥ 28,300 and would certainly pay off, even if you just use it for the return.
