I am visiting Japan in April. I want to know if I could buy kansai pass (1day validity) to go from kansai airport to Kyoto in Haruka (need link to see timings and we do not want to change trains) and may be to Nara (same day) and also JR pass for 7 days validity which starts after 4 days from arrival. Can I buy both? I am from India. What do I need to convert my voucher to pass. We are 2 adults... let me know when you post answer..Thanks

Hi there!

Yes you can buy a JR Pass and Kansai pass, no problem! Although I would suggest taking a look at the Haruka + ICOCA package instead, which includes a ticket on the Haruka Express and comes with an ICOCA card, which makes travel much more convenient.

You can exchange your JR Pass directly at Kansai Airport when you land, you can also buy a Kansai pass or Haruka + ICOCA package here.

I hope this helps!

Thank you Daniel. I am still confused about 4 things. 1) I will be landing on April 8 early morning but not using my JR pass until April 12. Can I still validate on 8 at Kansai airport for start using on 12th from Kyoto? If not then I see 2 places in kyoto station where I could validate and one shows from 5.30am working hrs.
2) Could I buy Kansai pass at Kansai airport and not to buy from India? also can I do the same thing for 7 day ordinary JR pass buying from Kansai airport or Kyoto station?
3) I saw Nara line in one picture which could be used by one day Kansai pass. Is this true? I was thinking of leaving luggage at Kyoto hostel and go to Nara and use my one day Kansai pass efficiently. 4) ICOCA package (I need only one way) might not work for me as I will be in Kyoto for 4 days (8 to 11) and will buy local pass and on my return, I am taking ferry to Busan from Fukuoka.
So please guide me... Thanks again..

Hi again,

1.) Yes you can exchange your JR Pass at Kansai Airport and select a first day of use for a later date, or activate it in Kyoto. Both options are completely fine.

2.) The Kansai Area Pass can be purchased at Kansai Airport but you can only purchase the JR Pass outside of Japan you can order one online HERE if you wish.

3.) Yes this is true and you could certainly make some savings this way. Do keep in mind that most temples close after 5 p.m. so try to arrive as early as possible.

4.) The JR Beetle (to Busan) is great! I hope you enjoy the ride!

I hope this helps you!

Hi Daniel, is it better to take beetle? I am thinking of camelia line. I read that beetle is very noisy and no space for any luggage. My JR pass exp. the day before I will take ferry. So tell me about which one is better. Camelia is leaving on 12.30pm and reaches Busan at 6.30pm. I could not find timings for Beetle, only 5 times a day and takes 3 hrs and 13000 Yens. Also I need KTX train from Busan to Seoul after 2 days of arriving in Busan. Could I still get combined ticket? or voucher and buy in Japan? May be Kyoto or Tokyo where I have more days? please guide...

Hi!

Personally I've only used the beetle but enjoyed it very much, the ride is easy and much quicker than other ferries.

I am not sure if there is a "combined ticket" however if the KTX in Korea is a little to costly consider taking an express bus which depart very frequently and get you across the country in about 4 hours and are about half price of the train.
