JR Pass for Tokyo - Hiroshima and seat reservations

I will be travelling from Tokyo -to Kyoto - Hiroshima and Universal City, and return to Tokyo within 6 days.
Will a JR Pass cover this region or do I need to get a Regional Pass?

Also I shall be travelling with kids so I want to reserve seats in advance (without activating my 7 day travel until I travel) so I’m not separated from my kids when travelling during peak times. Is it possible to reserve seats in advance? Do you have to be in Japan to do this or can you reserve seats online whilst overseas?
Thanks.

Hi there,

Yes, a JR Pass will cover this itinerary and is likely to be your most cost-effective option! Unfortunately you cannot reserve seats until you have activated your JR Pass and set an activation date so my recommendation would be to do this as soon as you reach Japan and have the opportunity to do so.

Hope this helps!
