Hi,

I wish to know if I am able to use JR East pass to get from Matsumoto to Kanazawa? I know that Kanazawa is outside the JR East Pass limit, so am I still able to use it with perhaps some top up? If so, what would the train route be like?

Thank you.

Hi TWG,

Good question, most of the travel won't be covered by the JR East Pass.
What you could do is use the JR East pass to travel to Nagano and buy a ticket from there, this would take some money of the train fare.

From Nagano you can take a local train to NAOETSU and from there an limited express train to Kanazawa, this is also the most economic way of traveling there (instead of taking the Shinkansen via Nagoya).

Hope this helps!
