Hi there,
So i'm organise a mini itinerary for myself and was wondering about the JR pass and whether it was worth it.

  • I will be flying into Kansai airport and than the next day I will be travelling into Kyoto.
  • and 3 days after heading to Tokyo for five days
  • and then back to Kyoto again and spend a few days in Osaka
  • then back to kyoto and travel to Kansai to depart from Japan.

What is the best way to travel with this itinerary?

Hi Nancy,

A 7 day JR Pass would work out well for your itinerary, given that you use it to travel from Kyoto - Tokyo and back. This because the price of the 7 day JR Pass is roughly the same as a return Kyoto - Tokyo, now you basically get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price.

The JR Pass is also valid on local train in Tokyo and Osaka, so you'll be sure to make some nice savings.

I would also recommend looking into a ICOCA + Haruka package, which gives you a discounted ticket on the Haruka express to Kyoto and an ICOCA card which you can use to locally travel around Kansai when you are not using your JR Pass.

I hope this helps!
Daniel
