Hi Tony,
Yes, this trip is very possible with a JR Pass and will be fully covered except for some transport around the Hakone Area.
A 7 day Japan rail pass is ¥28,300. For a rail pass to make economic sense you need to do more than ¥28,300 worth of JR travel. Here's your breakdown of the normal ticket costs for comparison:
TOTAL: ¥45180 for 4 legs
As you can see you'll make a saving of ¥16,880 with a JR Pass - so I can recommend this option for you vs normal tickets.
For Hakone you should travel to Odawara with the JR Pass and from there purchase the Odakyu Hakone Freepass which will give you free travel up to and around the lakes on all the rail, funicular and cable cars that travel around the area. You can read more about the Odakyu Hakone Freepass online.
Hope this helps!
thankyou so much for your reply
i think i will buy the odakyu hakone freepass and travel from tokyo - odawara - hakone with this
then activate the JR pass for a seven day trip odawara - hiroshima - kyotot - tokyo
it seems that this is possible - looking forward to the experience!!
Great stuff Tony - enjoy your trip!
