Is it worth buying a JR pass?

Hi there,
Trying to figure out what is more cost efficient and useful. Here's our itinerary
28th haneda to Kyoto
29 Kyoto
30 Kyoto to Tokyo
3 Tokyo to haneda

Does the pass work for travel between airport to speed train? Also is there enough bus/subway options within the cities of Kyoto and Tokyo that it would be worth it? Do you find these subway systems to be very confusing for foreigners?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Best,
Lauren

Hi Lauren,

I would recommend a 7 day JR Pass for your travels. This because the 7 day JR Pass is roughly the price of a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto. Now you get 7 days of unlimited train travel for the same price :)

The JR Pass is also valid for travel to and from Haneda Airport on the Tokyo Monorail. In addition you can use the JR Pass on local JR lines in Tokyo and around Kyoto. Note that the Metro is not covered by the JR Pass.

The Metro/Subway can be somewhat overwhelming the first time that you travel on it. There are a lot of lines and stations. Here's a little guide on how to get around.

I hope this helps!
Daniel
