We are a family of 3 travelling to Japan in December and we are trying to find out if it's worthwhile to buy JR Pass (specifically the Osaka-Tokyo-Hokuriko JR Pass) or individual tickets for our itinerary?

Day 1 - 6 Tokyo based (staying at Nihonbashi) + day trip to Kamakura
Day 6 - 8: Highway bus from Tokyo station to Lake Kawaguchiko + explore Lake Kawaguchiko
Day 8 - 11: Highway bus from Lake Kawaguchiko to Tokyo Station and then taking the Hokuriko Shinkansen immediately from Tokyo to Kanazawa + day trip to Shirakawago
Day 11 - 12: Hokuriko Shinkansen from Kanazawa to Tokyo

Thank you!

Hi there,

For your itinerary, it is likely that purchasing your tickets individually will be your best option. You'd have to purchase the tickets for Kawaguchiko separately anyway even if you were to purchase the pass, and you only plan on going up to Kanazawa and back so it makes the most sense to purchase your tickets individually.

Kind regards,

Alexis
