Hello!
I'm planning a Japan trip for my family on July 2025. The trip will last 15 days and we want to cover the following places:
- Osaka - Nara - Wakayama - Kyoto - Hiroshima - Nagoya - Fuji - Tokyo - Sapporo - Noboribetsu - Asahikawa - Tokyo again

I have the following questions:
1. Is the JR Pass a good option for this trip?
2. Does the JR Pass include local, rapid, limited express trains etc?
3. Does the JR Pass include the AONIYOSHI train from osaka to Nara? Or the Hinotori to Nagoya?
4. Does the JR Pass include the ferry to Miyajima? What is the procedure to use it once we are there?

Thank you very much!

  1. Yes, I'd certainly recommend purchasing a JR Pass for this itinerary, it would likely be your most cost-effective option because of the amount of Shinkansen travel you'll be doing.

  2. Yes, the JR Pass will cover all JR-operated rail services, including local, rapid, ltd. express and Shinkansen.

  3. Since the Aoniyoshi is a non JR-route, it is not covered by the JR Pass. The same goes for the Hinotori, as it is operated by Kinetsu, a non-JR railway company.

Kind regards,

Alexis
