We will be arriving at Osaka airport on Oct 3 and need to get to Kyoto. Can you please tell me the easiest way to travel since we will have luggage with us. After that we are traveling to Tokyo (Shinjuku) for a few days before we depart Narita. Should we consider the JR Rail Pass?
Hi there!
I would suggest taking the Haruka Express) which runs directly between the Airport and Kyoto station. This is by far the most convenient way of travel to Kyoto and is covered by the JR Pass.
Looking at ticket prices, I would not recommend a JR Pass for your journey as the only long distance travel you will do is Kyoto - Tokyo. A JR Pass quickly pays of if you make a return for instance but I would not recommend it for just one way.
I hope this helps!

Thank you, Daniel, for your quick response.
Daniel,
Can you give me an approximate cost of train travel from Osaka airport to Kyoto. Then from Kyoto to Shinjuku. Then from Shinjuku to Narita. I know you said we didn't need the JR pass but I would like to know how much it would cost without the pass. We will have luggage so need the most convenient route.
Hi Again!
Kansai Airport - Kyoto ¥ 3,480 by Haruka Express.
Kyoto - Shinjuku ¥ 13,420 by Shinkansen + local train in Tokyo.
Shinjuku - Narita Airport ¥ 3,310 by Narita Express.
These are by far the most convenient routes (and probably highest prices as well.) They are all covered by the JR Pass.
Let me know if I can help with anything else!
Daniel
