Hi We are going to japan in April and have bought a 7 day jr pass.
We are going from Tokyo to Osaka.
Osaka to Hiroshima.
Hiroshima to Fukuoko
then we would go from Fukuoko to Tokyo.
will a JR pass cover all of these places and do they have sleeper trains covered by the jr pass to Tokyo on the way back.
We have bought the reserved seating for the Jr passes and how do we reserve the seats.
Also we were thinking about sneaking a trip in from Tokyo to nagano to see the snow monkey does the jr pass get us to there?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards, Anthony

Hi there,

Yes, the JR Pass will cover travel to all these places. Including Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Nagano (but you have to use a non-JR bus from Nagano to the snow money park). All together these are some really big distances and a JR Pass would give you very good value.

There are almost no night trains in Japan, the only one is the Sunrise Express and while this could be helpful on your route. Keep in mind that it can be sold out well in advance.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.

Hi,
Regarding the seating, as soon as you activate your pass you can make seat reservations for free if you are sure of what train you want to take. You can do it just before your departure, or all at once if you like.
Going from Fukuoka though all the way to Tokyo would take you about 6-6½ hours though, so you might consider breaking up that journey to make it more tolerable.

There are some very good cherry blossom spots in Fukuoka if you're there during the April season. Nishi Park and Maizuru Park are two of the best and while there can be a lot of people there, it is still far better than more crowded bigger cities. Atago Jinja is another and if offers excellent views over Hakata Bay.

For Hiroshima the area by the Peace Park is another place for the blossoms, and you should not miss Miyajima either. It is more famous for the Itsukushima Shrine with the giant "floating" torii, and the Daishoin Temple as well, but there are a number of great places to see the blossoms there too.

Don't forget that you can use the JR Pass for the Hiroshima Loop Bus to get around to save even more.

Good luck.
