Hi everyone,

so exciting as this will be my first time to travel to Japan after almost 20 years!!! (it will be my husband's first time)
anyway, wanted to ask if this can be used from Tokyo to Kyoto? And all around Tokyo? What is recommended? Will roughly be in Tokyo for 7 days and Kyoto for 2 nights. Thanks a lot in advance. :)

Hi there!

Yes you can use the JR Pass to travel with the Shinkansen from Tokyo - Kyoto, in addition to local travel on the JR Network in Tokyo.

Since you plan to visit Kyoto, I would recommend a 7 day JR Pass the price is about the same as a normal return ticket but now you get 7 days of unlimited train travel.

Here's a map of all lines covered in Tokyo.

Just curious, the JR Pass is also nearing it's 20th anniversary. Did you use it last time in Japan as well? Also a cool fact is that the price of the JR Pass never changed during this 20 year period!

I hope this helps!
Daniel

Thanks so much Daniel-san! :) I can't remember the last time as I was about 10 and travelling with my parents! haha! But very cool that prices haven't changed! Is it better to buy from my country or once we get to Tokyo?

Would you know if it's easy to get wifi access in Tokyo? We are not planning to activate our roaming to use our phones but just rely on imessage through wifi. :)

You have been so helpful! Thanks for also including the map!

Hi Again,

Please be aware that it only possible to buy a JR Pass outside of Japan - we send you an exchange order per dispatch - which you then exchange for the actual JR Pass in Japan. So be sure to buy one while you are still at home.

It depends where you are, just opening up a Wifi Spot for public use in Tokyo would not work, too many would connect and no body would be able to access the internet. Most accommodations do offer free Wifi though, also starbucks has free Wifi. Be sure to register beforehand though.

oh ok Daniel. Thanks! You have such considerate and thoughtful advice! For the remaining days spent in Tokyo, what do you suggest for how we get around? It's just another 4 days. Thanks and if ever you're in Manila, will be glad to give you tips as well. :)

Hi again!

Tokyo is really big, huge and amazing! There's so much to do that it's actually hard to recommend something out of the blue. To start with, consider a visit to Odaiba it's a newest part of Tokyo and has a lot of interesting stuff, such as the AsahiTV building, the rainbow bridge, Tokyo Big site and many great places to shop!

I can give you some better recommendations if you tell me what kind of things you would like to see and do, so please let me know!

-Daniel
