I live in Australia, me and my family are arriving in Tokyo on the 27/04/24. We are planning to spend some time in Tokyo, then head to Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima, I wanted to ask how much in advance is recommended to buy the rail pass in order to book/reserve the seats to visit above places? also, can the seats be booked/reserved before activating the rail pass?

Hi there,
When purchasing the JR Pass, the main thing you need to account for is the delivery time for the exchange order. As long as you purchase it no more than three months before use, it won't matter.
You'll only be able to reserve seats once you've exchanged the order in Japan.
