Travelling to Narita in May spending 4 nights in Shinjuku then 3 nights in Hakone, 4 nights in Kyoto and then 2 nights in Shibuya before heading to Narita for flight home. We may do a day trip to Hiroshima and likely day trips to Osaka while in Kyoto. In calculating days I likely need 8 days for JR Pass (last day would be trip to Shibuya from Kyoto). Would I be better off getting 7 days at 50,000 yen and buying 1 way tickets to Shibuya from Kyoto?

Can I activate the JR Pass to only start on Day 5 of my trip when I plan to travel to Hakone from Shinjuku vs when I land in Narita?

Hi there,

Yes - what you can do is exchange your JR Pass order when you arrive in Narita and then set its activation date to when you leave for Hakone, so that you can begin making reservations from when you first arrive in Japan.

Hope this helps!
