Dear Daniel,

I would appreciate your view on whether it would make sense to take a 14-day JR pass for the following itinerary:

  • 12 April arriving at Osaka Kansai airport at 18:00 and going directly to Kyoto
  • staying in/around Kyoto until 17 April
  • going to Nagoya on 18 April
  • leaving Nagoya on 20 April and heading to Tokyo
  • leaving Tokyo from Narita on 25 April

Thanks in advance,
Vesna

Hi Vesna,

For this itinerary I'd stick to buying normal tickets. It's basically a one way route Kyoto - Tokyo as Nagoya is directly on the route. This means that travel cost would not amount up to a JR Pass.

For your arrival at Kansai Airport, I would recommend buying a Haruka + ICOCA package. This gives you a discounted ticket on the train to Kyoto and you can use the ICOCA card for local travel around Kyoto, Nagoya and Tokyo.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
