Hello,

We will be visiting Japan from June 6th to June 21st. Our daughter will turn 6 on the 16th. Do we need to purchase a JR pass for her? We will be using our card to travel in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka and perhaps other cities as well as local travel within those cities. Please help us to know what’s the best option. Thank you

Hi there,

Because she won't be considered at child prices until the latter part of your trip, I'd suggest not purchasing a JR Pass, and just purchasing her discounted child fare tickets if necessary - there's a chance they'll let you through with her without paying even though she will be 6 but you can't rely on this so I'd suggest just purchasing her tickets as you go.

Kind regards,

Alexis
