We are a family of 4 - 2 adults 14 year old and 13 year old - travelling from Tokyo to Kyoto - Hiroshima - NozawaOnsen and back to Tokyo, flying in and out of NArita. Could you please advise what is the best rail pass option for us

Hi there,
It would really depend on when you travel and how much time you spend in each city or town.
Here's a quick break down of ticket prices without the JR Pass.
Tokyo - Kyoto ¥ 13,220
Kyoto - Hiroshima ¥ 10,790
Hiroshima - Nozawa Onsen ¥ 17,470
Nozawa - Tokyo ¥ 8,700
For a total of ¥ 50,180 the 14 day JR Pass is ¥ 45,100 so you would be able to save at least ¥ 5,080 per person.
Given of course that you can do the above travel in 14 days. In addition you can also use the JR Pass on local JR trains in Tokyo and for travel too or from Narita Airport.
