we will be in japan for 16.5 days. I'm trying to work out if we should get a 7 day or a 14 day jr pass. Our itinery is as follows
day 1-2 tokyo
day 3 mt fuji
day 4-5 osaka
day 6-7 hiroshima
day 7-12 kyoto (day trip to nara day 9)
day 13-14 kanazawa
day 14-16.5 tokyo (day trip to nikko day 15)
many thanks

Hi there!

Let's have a look at ticket prices and see what would be the best option:

Tokyo - Osaka (on the way from Mt Fuji) ¥ 13,750
Osaka - Hiroshima ¥ 10,520
Hiroshima - Kyoto ¥ 10,790
Kyoto - Kanazawa ¥ 6,710
Kanazawa - Tokyo ¥ 12,710
Tokyo - Nikko (return)

This adds up to ¥ 65,340 the 14 day JR Pass is ¥ 45,100 saving you ¥ 20,240, which is well worth it. In addition you will just need one ticket for most of your travel, making getting around very easy and convenient.

I hope this helps!

Thank you so much!
I didn't realise there was a reservation fee involved in addition to the ticket price
