I will be in Japan for 37 days total. Have rented an apartment near Saitama Pref. on Seibu-Shijuku line.
Itinerary: Travel to Matsumoto area for 4 days. Will leave from Hachioji Station.
Travel to Kyoto and Nara for 3 days. Travel to Nikko for 3 days. Will use the Nikko pass for this trip. Will travel back to Yamanashi Prefecture from Hachioji Station for a couple of days.

All will be done in the order listed. Fourteen day seems perfect except for the last leg from Hachioji Station to Yamanashi area. Less than $300 difference between 14/21 day pass. Hope to hear some of your thoughts. Thank You.

P.S. Arrive and depart Haneda, not Narita.

Hi there!

Looks like an interesting plan and the amount of time which you have to spend in Japan is certainly nice. Since you have that much time to spend in each place I actually think that it would be better to buy tickets as you travel or use a 7 day JR Pass if you can use the travel Tokyo - Matsumoto - Kyoto - Tokyo in 7 days.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

PS: Both travel to Narita and Haneda is covered by the JR Pass.

Thank You Daniel,
I was not as clear as I could have been. The Matsumoto trip and the Kyoto trip will be over a two week period. Four days in Matsumoto and three days visiting Kyoto-Nara area. Also, There will be two of us, which probably doesn't make much difference.

Thanks again,
Dale

Hi Dale,

Okay in that case I'd suggest sticking to normal tickets. A 14 day JR Pass unfortunately would not pay off for your itinerary.

Hope this helps too!
Daniel
