Hi,
I will be traveling to Japan 5/22-6/5. We will spend the first 5 nights in Tokyo, and then go down to Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Hakone. Is it better to get a 7 day JR pass and get regional passes for Kyoto/Osaka? Can we use the Suica/IC Cards in those cities as well as Tokyo?
Thank you so much.

Kind Regards,
Mindi

Hi there,

I would suggest purchasing your tickets individually for your itinerary. Suica/IC cards can be used across several cities in Japan including Kyoto and Osaka - you can read more about that here.

Hope this helps!

And it better to get the Welcome Suica or the regular one that can be used on the iPhone? It seems that it is less hassle to get the regular Suica since you can add money via Apple Pay. I don't mind paying the small fee.

Also, can you get the bullet train tickets online ahead of time? I understand that it fairly easy to change the departure.
Thanks again.
