Travelling from Shikoku to Fukuoka via Matsue and Izumo

We (two people) are spending a week in Shikoku in November and then heading from Takamatsu, via Okayama to Izumo and then on to Fukuoka (Hakata). We will take about 6 days for this trip. I have looked into getting the 7 day Sanyo San'in Area JR pass and tried comparing this with the cost of the individual tickets on Jorudan, and it does seem to be cheaper. But it is very hard to work out exactly what trains we would be able to take and therefore how long it would take us, especially the sector from Izumo to Fukuoka.

Could you help us please? We'll be travelling on this part of our 5 weeks in Japan from 26th November to 1st December.

regards Kathy

Hi Kathy,

I can list below all of the trains the pass covers. It’s good for you to know that all the stations you’ll be visiting are covered by the pass, and a map is provided here.

Unlimited travel on the Sanyo Shinkansen between Shin-Osaka and Hakata (Fukuoka).
Can also be used on the “Hello Kitty Shinkansen”.
Access to rapid and local JR services in the region depicted on the map linked above, within the validity period.
Valid on the Kyoto Tango Railway to Amanohashidate.
Local JR buses in Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Yamaguchi, including between Kyoto Station, Takao and Shuzan, and from Yamaguchi and Hagi to Akiyoshidai.
JR Express buses between Yamaguchi and Hagi.
JR ferry to Miyajima.
Complimentary bicycle rentals at select “Ekirin-kun” stations in the region.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
