Hey , I will be looking to travel to Japan in the next couple of months. I will be arriving at Tokyo Haneda airport. From there how can I go into this city in Tokyo? Would I just purchase a single pass.

Also I will be will be staying in Tokyo for several days then go to Osaka for few days then to Kyoto for 2 days and take a day trip to Nara then back to Tokyo. Would a Jr pass be the best pass for me or Should I go with a regional pass ? If so which regional pass?

Another question is I might be also going to gala yuzawa , would it still be best to purchase regional pass and pass for a round trip ticket for gala yuzawa ?

Please let me know. Thank you

Hi there,

You can basically use the entire JR Network around Tokyo and all of Japan. We have useful JR Map resources here.

If you go to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Gala Yuzawa, then the only pass that covers it all is the Japan Rail Pass, but whether it helps you save money will also depend on your other travel and timing. The only regional pass, that is significantly cheaper than the Japan Rail Pass, is the Hokuriku Arch Pass but it does come with limited routes.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
