14 day stay in Japan

Dear Daniel-san,

we will travel to Japan from the 10th until 24th March.
We will arrive in Tokyo and travel the next day to
Kyoto (5d),
Osaka (2d),
Hiroshima (2d)
and return to Tokyo again for the remaining 5 days.
Buying the 14 day JR Pass seems obvious, however, we will only be traveling around Japan for 9 days and stay the remaining time in Tokyo. Of course, we also want to do a day trip from Tokyo to Fuji-san or Kamakura.

But as we are students we wonder, if it is cheaper to reduce our stay in Kyoto, purchase the 7 day JR Pass, and buy local tickets for when we are in Tokyo?

Thank you very much in advance for your recommendation.

Hi Nena,

Welcome to the forum.

Cost wise, a 14-day JR Pass does work best with the plan you currently have. If you want to safe costs then you could return to Tokyo earlier, within the 7-day JR Pass period but it would mean missing out elsewhere. In the end it is a decision you will have to make, as I don't know your budget and wishes.

Thank you,
Daniel
