Hi I am travelling from Tokyo to Kyoto, from Kyoto to Osaka, from Osaka to Hiroshima and from Hiroshima back to Tokyo over a period of 7 days. What would be the best and most economical way to do this travel using Japan Rail passes? Can I use a combination of regional passes to achieve this or I need to purchase a national pass?

Hi there,

For this itinerary I’d suggest purchasing a JR Pass - my suggestion would be to solely use direct Shinkansen trains as it’s the only feasible option for travel between these cities. There is a direct train from Tokyo to Osaka, then you can get a local train or Shinkansen from Osaka to Kyoto, then from Osaka/Kyoto there is a direct Shinkansen to Hiroshima. The same goes for the return trip, you just have to bear in mind that between Hiroshima and Tokyo you’ll have to change at Osaka.

Kind regards,

Alexis
