Hi there,
A 7 JR Pass (¥28,300) will generally pay for itself with a return trip from Tokyo to Kyoto. For your trip I recommend the following:
- [Narita Express + Suica prepaid card] or Keisei Skyliner + 2 day metro pass for your travel from Narita into Tokyo + discount travel around Tokyo.
- 7 day JR Pass for your travel from Tokyo down to Kyoto and back to the airport.
Lets check how much you will save from the 4th-10th using the JR Pass:
- Tokyo > Nagoya: ¥10,780 (126mins, 366km)
- Nagoya > Kyoto: ¥5,640 (37mins, 147km)
- Kyoto > Narita airport terminal 1: ¥16,330 (238mins, 592km)
JR ticket cost: ¥32,750 for 3 legs
- 7 day Japan Rail Pass (¥28,300) saving: ¥4,450
As you can see you'll make good savings with the 7 day pass over this period with the added benefit that any further JR travel will be free.
