Hello!

We will be in Japan March 23rd-31st. Our itinerary is a one way from Tokyo to Kyoto and then Osaka, with needing to travel to Osaka for our flight on the 31st.
We are wanting to use the public transport/subway system to get around in Tokyo to explore and get around (also in Kyoto).
Will getting a JR Pass be right for us?
We have 4 adults, 2 kids- one being 5. Does the 5 year old need a pass?

Hi there,

A JR Pass is genenerally speaking worth it, when use the Shinkansen for at least 2 intercity trips. For example a return Tokyo - Kyoto can be enough. You'll be going one way Tokyo - Kansai (Osaka/Kyoto) and therefor a JR Pass would not help you make savings. As such, just buying normal tickets would be the better option.

Kind regards,
Daniel
