Hi,
My friends and I are travelling to Japan next Thursday for the Rugby World Cup. We are flying to Haneda (arriving on the 4th) and staying in Central Tokyo. The first weekend we will be going to a game at Tokyo stadium (5th October), and then on the Monday (7th), we would like to take a Shinkansen to Kyoto for a few days, before return on Friday (11th) to Tokyo. We then have a final game at Yokohama stadium (12th) before flying home on Sunday (13th).
I was wondering what the cheapest option would be in terms of rail fares given we need:
- Transit to and from Haneda to central Tokyo (staying Shibuya)
- Transit from Central Tokyo to Tokyo Stadium
- Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto and back to Tokyo four days later
- Transit around Kyoto
- Transit from Central Tokyo to Yokohama Stadium
As we are staying for more than 7 days, I presume we would need a 14 day Rail Pass.
However, I think it might be cheaper just to buy a return ticket on the Shinkansen and then use a Passmo for the other journeys. Do you agree? Is it possible to reserve the Shinkansen before travelling to Japan or are we better off doing it when we get to Tokyo?
Any advice would be most welcome. Arigatou gozaimasu!
