Hi there,
Here are some answers,
I am flying into Tokyo (Narita Airport), arriving Friday 25th October (9-10am), can you please advise me if I should take a taxi to Ritz Hotel in Tokyo or advisable to take train to Tokyo (central station - if train can you provide train timetable or link to tiimetable)?
9-10am should be just out of rush hour, so it all depends on your budget :). The taxi will be most expensive, but very convenient. Alternatively, you can get the limousine airport bus direct to your hotel. This service stops directly at the Ritz-Carlton. Finally, if you did want to travel by train, you can get the narita express to Tokyo station, and then make your way to Roppongi subway station via the marunouchi and hibiya lines. There are some more details on how to get to the Ritz-Carlton by subway on their website.
I will be staying in Tokyo until Sunday 28th October, and would like to take fast train to Osaka, can you please send me link to timetable and how much it will cost. I would also then return to Tokyo Narita Airport on Thursday 1st November - how is the quickest way to do this, believe trian is better than domestic flight, again timetables and cost - I think I would need to take train to Tokyo City then change (how far are train stations/platforms from eachother, do I need to take underground or taxi between stations). Would a JR Pass cover my jouney and at what cost/savings?
Here are the costs and times for the legs on this trip assuming you use the train to it's fullest:
- Narita airport terminal 1 > Tokyo: ¥2740, (62mins, 79km)
- Tokyo > Osaka: ¥13550, (194mins, 556km)
- Osaka > Narita airport terminal 1: ¥15850, (272mins, 635km)
TOTAL: ¥32140 for 3 legs
A 7 day Japan Rail Pass is ¥28,300, so you will make a saving of ¥3840 over buying separate tickets with one. If you are not travelling on a budget however, it maybe slightly faster to fly direct from Osaka to Narita and then transfer at the airport. If you choose this option I would not recommend a Japan Rail Pass for this trip.
Transfer at Tokyo from the Bullet trains to the Narita Express is very simple and you will not need to change station. Expect a walk between platforms of around 15mins.
You can look up train timetables and costs at the Hyperdia travel planning website and learn how to use Hyperdia for Japan Rail Pass holders through our video blog.
Hope this helps!
