Could you please advise in particular how I would travel from
Hakuba to Nikko by train. Also would it make sense to have the Japan Pass for the total train travel?

Hi there,

There are a few direct trains (Azusa service) from Hakuba Station to Shinjuku, Tokyo. If your schedules allows it, then I highly recommend taking this as it is the fastest. Then take the Chuo line to Tokyo Station, followed by the Shinkansen to Utsunomiya and finally the local JR Nikko line (to Nikko).

You would have to cover more travel than the above, for a JR Pass to be cost-effective.

Kind regards,
Daniel
