Hi,

We are planing a trip to Japan in the period October this year. We have a question regarding if we should buy a 7 day or 14 day jr pass.

Our travel plans are so far following:

-16,17,18 Tokyo

-19 Osaka

  • 20 Mount Koya

-21 Kobe

  • 22 Hirosima

  • 23 Itsukushima

-24, 25 Kyoto

-26 Nara

-27,28 (Nikko) ,29, 30 Tokyo

would it be best to buy a 14 jr pass or just pay single tickets.

Thank you,

Hi there!

I certainly think that a 14-day JR Pass will suit your travels well!

Let's have a look it ticket prices and see what kind of savings are to be had.

Tokyo - Osaka ¥ 13,220
Osaka - Kobe ¥ 390
Kobe - Hiroshima ¥ 9,010
Hiroshima - Itsukushima (return) ¥ 1,140
Hiroshima - Kyoto ¥ 10,790
Kyoto - Nara ¥ 690
Nara - Tokyo ¥ 13,750
Tokyo - Nikko (return). ¥ 10,860

For a total of ¥ 59,850 in travel. The 14 Day JR Pass is ¥ 45,100 so you would be making some very good savings. Additionally travel to and from the Airport is covered and you can also use the JR Pass on local JR lines in both Osaka and Kyoto. Also note that travel between Osaka and Koya san is traveled on privately owned rail and thus not covered by the JR Pass.

I Hope this helps!
Daniel
